College Place Members Are Engaged In a Variety of Hands-On Mission Projects |
At the end of July, 5 youth and 2 adults from College Place were part of a week-long mission through Carolina Cross Connection. They worked with families throughout central North Carolina doing home improvements, painting, and yard work. CCC, started by First UMC in Lincolnton, is now in its 24th year and was assisting about 800 families this summer from five different locations in western NC.
That same week, two other members were counselors for Camp Carefree, a day camp for children and youth who have either Turner's syndrome or hemophilia.
For several weeks in July, another member was in Haiti assisting with a Vacation Bible School program for several hundred children that is run by an Episcopal parish there. Our church has assisted this ministry for several years through Love Offerings.
In September, 2 other members will be working with a Methodist Church in central Cuba as part of a Building Team from the Western NC Conference of the UMC. |
